IRVINE, Calif.- Dominican men's basketball visited Concordia University Irvine Saturday afternoon for a PacWest showdown. This game was back and forth throughout, but the Golden Eagles escaped with a 64-61 victory.
Senior
Dale Currie led all scorers in this one dropping 17 points on 6 for 8 from the field. The Sacramento native was on fire from deep hitting 4 out of 5 from behind the arc. His four three-pointers were also a game-high.
What kept the Penguins within striking range was the play of their bench. Sophomore
PJ Volz was one of the focal points for the second unit. Volz was second on the team with 11 points and brought great energy once he got onto the court.
Nathan Ilunga,
Garrett Siebels, and
Brendon Johnson all made positive contributions going for seven points each. Ilunga was dominant down low for the Penguins going 3 for 5 from the field.
Turnovers will drive any head coach crazy, and the Penguins struggled in this department. CUI collected seven steals and there was no bigger turnover than the last one with 10 seconds to go.
Looking for a three-pointer to tie the game, the Penguins were trying to set up their offense but miscommunication caused the ball to go out of bounds clinching a victory for the Golden Eagles.
Dominican will travel to Biola to take on the Eagles Dec. 18
