Penguins Wrap Up SoCal Road Trip

LA MIRADA, Calif. – Dominican men's basketball dropped a hard-fought game to Biola Monday night 79-72. After playing CUI Saturday afternoon, the Penguins were right back on the court for a PacWest showdown with the Eagles.

Sophomore PJ Volz posted a team-high 21 points while grabbing four rebounds and dishing out two assists. Volz, who missed some games early on with an injury, is looking like his old self again which is good news for the Penguins entering the crucial part of their schedule.

Seniors Dale Currie and Marcus McCutchen were second on the team in scoring with 12 points each. Currie has been a three-point threat throughout the season and that continued with him knocking down three from deep. McCutchen grabbed six rebounds while going perfect from the charity stripe.

The game was back and forth to begin with Dominican's biggest lead in the first half being five points that came on a McCutchen layup. The Eagles would crawl back into it taking a slim two-point lead into halftime.

Dominican's bench play has been big all year and it was no different against Biola. The Penguins bench outscored the Eagles 19 to 6 with Brendon Johnson and Garrett Siebels leading the way in that department. Johnson and Siebels knocked down a total of four three-pointers which helped the Penguins stay within striking distance in the second half. The Eagles controlled the paint late in the game which helped them pull away with the seven-point victory.

The Penguins will have 12 days to rest up and enjoy the holidays as they are back in action Dec. 30th against Westmont.
