San Rafael, Calif. — Dominican Men's Basketball hosted Chaminade on Tuesday evening. The Penguins fresh off of a win in their first conference game this past Saturday stayed hot with a 73-59 victory over the Silverswords. This marked the second time in school history that Dominican has taken a double-digit victory over Chaminade.
Marcus McCutchen led the Penguin offense with a game high 18 points and seven rebounds.
Dale Currie came in right behind him posting 17 points and five rebounds on the evening.
Carter Plousha also made major contributions with a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Chaminade took an early 5-1 lead, but Dominican came back with a three-pointer from
Omari Davis to bring the score within one. A scoring run put the Silverswords up 11-4, but this was the last time they would see a lead this long. McCutchen and Currie were a dynamic duo on the attack adding 11 points to the board to put the Penguins ahead 17-15 with 8:55 to go in the first half. The Silverswords fought to get themselves back in the game tying the score 17-17, but another Currie to McCutchen combo secured the lead that the Penguins would carry the remainder of the game. Multiple scoring opportunities stretched the score to 38-30 in Dominican's favor to close the first half.
In the second half, Chaminade made an attempt to get back in the mix with an 8-0 scoring run to make it a two-point game, but the Penguin offense quickly regained momentum. Dominican's seven-point run with a three-pointer from
PJ Volz, and a layup and dunk from Plousha set the score 47-38. Dominican took their largest lead of the night after back-to-back threes from Currie and Garret Siebels put them up 17 points on the Silverswords.The Penguins were on fire and carried the success through the final minutes, with one last three from Currie to ice the game 73-59.
Dominican will be back in action Saturday, Dec. 16th when they travel down to Concordia University Irvine at 4:30 p.m.
