Dominican women's basketball beat Menlo College Tuesday night 73 to 59 improving their record to 6-1. This victory for the Penguins now ties a school record for best start to a season.
This was a gritty win for the Penguins, and they were put in an unusual situation they haven't been in a lot this season. Dominican was trailing by seven after the first period. Menlo College came out the gates strong and forced the Penguins to regroup once the second period got underway.
The Penguins picked up their effort on defense in the second period causing the Oaks to settle for contested jumpers. Junior
Alaiyah San Juan was tied with freshman
Adia Walker in the points department for Dominican dropping 13 points on an efficient 5 for 8 from the field.
Walker, the Nevada native, was a key piece off the bench for the Penguins as she forced her way down the lane time and time again. She went a perfect 7 for 7 from the charity stripe. Junior
Mikayla Amoroso helped Walker off the bench with nine points of her own while grabbing six rebounds.
The game was close until the midway point of the third period, and that's when the Penguins senior leaders started to take control of the game.
Jenna Duley hit critical buckets late in the second half and fellow senior
Olga Faasolo made her presence felt down low making life tough for the Oaks on offense.
Dominican will get some rest before opening PacWest play against Azusa Pacific on Dec. 9
