Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Seniors power Penguins

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – Dominican women's soccer received a fantastic performances from its seniors to lead it to a 3-0 victory Saturday over Academy of Art on Senior Day at Kennelly Field.

The Penguins (5-8-1, 1-4-1 PacWest) dominated possession throughout the game as then finished with 29 shots, 17 of which were on goal. Jackie Lancaster led the way among seniors as she recorded an assist and a goal on the afternoon.

It did not take long for seniors to make their presence felt as a corner kick from senior Bella Bueno bounced around the box and to the foot of senior Krystal Galdamez who put a hard shot on frame that Urban Knight (2-12, 0-7 PacWest) Kayla Hampton was able to parry over the cross bar to prevent a goal in the third minute. Three minutes later senior Abigail Estes put her first touch off a combination play ahead to senior Caitlyn Garrison behind the defense and Garrison beat the keeper near post for the 1-0 lead.

The seniors continued to push the issue as Lancaster drove down the left side, cut back across the back line and then sent a cross to the front of the net to Bueno who got a right foot to the ball to poke it past the keeper for the 2-0 lead in the 15th minute. The Penguins continued to pepper the net with shots from its seniors such as Audrey Nakashima, Camille Aquino, Eryn Tufts and Marissa Ray. In total, Dominican ended the half with 12 shots while holding ART U to one shot.

The second half was more of the same with the Penguins spending nearly the entire half in their attacking third. Nakashima nearly scored as a high shot in the 68th minute rattled off the top woodwork and bounced back to Ray who tried to head the rebound towards the right post but it went wide to keep the two-goal advantage. In the 78th minute, Carmi Dotario put a through ball behind the defense to Lancaster who beat the keeper one-on-one for the 3-0 lead. The best chance for the Urban Knights came one minute later as Jade Alverio put a shot high on frame that Natalie Haro pushed over the top bar to preserve her second consecutive shutout.

Dominican will have a week off to prepare for its last Southern California road trip beginning with a game at Point Loma on Monday, October 30 with kickoff set for 3:30 p.m. PDT at PLNU Soccer Field.
