Dominican outlasted by Fresno Pacific

San Rafael, CALIF. -- Dominican University of California (4-3-0) dropped its final game of the non-conference season, falling 2-0 at the hands of Fresno Pacific University (2-2-0).

Dominican controlled much of the early possession, controlling the pace for the majority of the opening 30 minutes. A narrow miss by junior Aboubacar Cisse marked the closest opportunity of the opening frame, adding to a plethora of corner kicks earned by the Penguins. Brandon Selway got his body on a corner kick in the 20th minute, but a slew of Sunbirds' defenders steered the chance aside. Senior keeper Alejandro Reyes saw his two toughest tests of the opening stanza just seconds apart in the 34th minute when he made a diving stop on the initial Fresno Pacific shot, then throwing his body into the way of the rebound to keep the game even before heading into the half.

Fresno found the scoreboard early in the second half Marcus Silva received a pass in the center of the attacking third before darting towards the box. A few yards before entering the box, Silva rocketed a shot off his right foot that found its way into the back of the net, leaving next to no chance for Reyes to make a stop as the perfectly placed shot broke the deadlock. Cisse came close to evening things back up a minute later when he sent a scorcher toward the bottom left corner, but a diving Elmer Carballo made a miraculous stop. Dominican kept pace with the Sunbirds as the game wound down, earning an inconceivable 13 corner kicks in the second half, but the goals stayed hard to come by. Fresno doubled its lead in the 70th minute off a penalty kick, putting the game out of reach as they eventually walked off the field with a 2-0 victory.
