Hert makes a save

Hert's 6-save performance helps Dominican earn draw against Cal Poly Humboldt

| By:
San Rafael, Calif. — Dominican University of California (0-0-2) and Cal Poly Humboldt (0-1-1) found themselves in a defensive dual as the two combatants exited the pitch to the melody of a 0-0 draw as Freshman Angelina Hert earned a 6-save clean sheet, her first clean sheet of the fresh season.

Despite owning much of the possession in the beginning phases, Dominican was unable to put lasting pressure on the opposing keeper as the Jacks defenders kept the box clear. Sophomore Carmi Dotario sent the Penguins' first test towards the keeper just over three minutes into the match, but the ball sailed wide of the goal.

Hert made her first save in the ninth minute on a ball that was directed towards the lower half of the frame, keeping the score even as she made her first of six saves on the afternoon, with her second save coming moments later. Humboldt then found itself searching for the offside line as a pair of calls went against them while streaking towards Hert. Ultimately, neither team was able to find the target as they returned to their respective benches for halftime deadlocked at 0-0.

Hert and the team combined for three stops in the opening seven minutes of the second half as the Jacks offense found its groove early on, but as before, Hert was up to the task.

Dominican's closest opportunity came in the 58th minute when sophomore Ireland O'Donnell sent a screecher soaring past the outstretched arms of the Jacks' keeper, but the woodworked played hero has the ball ricocheted off the top bar. Humboldt flipped the field and quickly found itself on the offense a minute later, but a pair of saves in the 70th and 75 minutes by Hert would keep the game even.

A plethora of substitutions were made by both sides in the 81st minute as nine fresh faces took the field, but the storyline of the game proved strong as both sides walked away with a draw added to their records.

Dominican now looks ahead to Thursday, Sept. 2 when it returns home for an afternoon matinee against Cal State Monterrey Bay.
