Penguins increase win streak to four games

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – Dominican women's tennis capped off its regular season with a 6-1 victory over UC Santa Cruz on Saturday afternoon at Castellucci Family Tennis Center.

Audrey Rafols and Gina Dudley provided the early spark for the Penguins (11-6) as they overpowered the Banana Slugs' (5-6) Sara Beckman and Tanner Rowland for the 6-1 victory at No. 1 doubles. The remaining courts remained close between the two teams but Zoe Coggins and Julia Rydel handed Dominican the team point from doubles as they held on for a 6-4 victory at No. 2 doubles.

Rydel followed up her doubles performance with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Sophia Nguyen on the fourth court to open up the singles scoring. Rafols was right behind her with the 6-1, 6-1 victory over Beckman to put the Penguins quickly within a singles victory of clinching the team victory. Gina Dudley overcame a rocky start at No. 2 singles to defeat Rowland 6-3, 6-1 to ensure Dominican finished the regular season on a four-game win streak.

Zoe Coggins added a 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 5 singles with Haley Garcia capturing the third court with a 6-4, 6-3 victory. UCSC's lone point of the match came at No. 6 singles where Angelina Powers took home a 6-1, 6-3 victory.
