SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – Dominican women's tennis sent off senior
Gigi Alajeely in style with a 7-0 sweep of William Jessup on Friday at Castellucci Family Tennis Center.
Zoe Coggins and
Julia Rydel got things started for Dominican with a 6-1 victory at No. 2 doubles over the Warriors' (2-15) Sydney Page and Juliette Caughey. Alajeely and
Haley Garcia were not far behind as they also recorded a 6-1 doubles win for the Penguins (10-6).
Audrey Rafols and
Gina Dudley struggled early in No. 1 doubles but settled in and won five straight games to close out a 6-2 victory over Aysha Hayes and Nicollet Alexander and securing the doubles sweep.
Coggins was once again the first to finish as she took No. 4 singles 6-1, 6-0 over McKenzie Hawkins of William Jessup. Alajeely finished just seconds later as she dispatched Page 6-2, 6-0 in No. 4 singles to put Dominican a singles match from the team victory. Garcia provided that clinching point at No. 3 singles as she took the 6-0, 6-1 victory over Danielle Akabane.
Antoinette Schreiber provided the Penguins with their only perfect sweep of the afternoon at No. 6 sinlges winning 6-0, 6-0 over Caughey. Rafols kept the momentum rolling as she took No. 1 singles 6-2, 6-2 and Dudley then finished off the sweep with a 6-1, 6-3 win on the second court.
Dominican will conclude its regular season schedule Saturday against UC Santa Cruz at noon PDT at Castellucci Family Tennis Center.
