Riley Friauf received a 2022 WBCA NCAA Division II Coaches' All-America honorable mention, the WBCA announced Wednesday.
"Coach Tim and his assistants always told me I would be an All-American," Friauf said. "They told me I'm going to score when I get the ball, but I told them, 'no way'. I was a solid player, but I never averaged 20 point per game or anything like that. My coaches and team gave me the mentality that I always needed to score and be efficient. Having that mindset helped me going into each game. Without my teammates and coaches, I wouldn't have the confidence. They gave me the confidence and helped me become the player and person I am today."
Despite not being named the PacWest Player of the Year, Friauf was the only PacWest women's basketball player to be named on either of the All-American and Coaches' All-America honorable mention lists.
"Everyone at Dominican — all the professors, the staff, coaches, teammates, trainers — everyone left a lasting impact on me. Even the advisors helping with internships, helping me succeed off the court, everything help set me up for success in the future," Friauf said.
Friauf finished the season with a remarkable stat line that reads 20.7 points per game, 9.6 rebounds and a .487 field goal percentage. The Vancouver, Washington, native also tallied 558 total points, 259 rebounds, 172 made free throws, 43 assists, 35 steals and 19 blocks. Nationally, Friauf found herself atop many charts. The graduate student ranked No. 6 in points per game (20.7), No. 1 in successful free throws (172), No. 43 in rebounds per game (9.6), No. 47 in total rebounds (247) and No. 35 in defensive rebounds per game (6.9).
