Penguins sweep weekly awards

IRVINE, Calif. – Dominican women's basketball followed up one of its best weekends in program history by sweeping the Pacific West Conference's weekly awards. Camryn Figueroa was named PacWest Player of the Week and Brittney Cedeno was PacWest Defender of the Week.

Figueroa scored 16 points to start the week helping the Penguins build a big lead over Point Loma Nazarene as they cruised to a 68-59 victory in San Diego. Cedeno seemed to be all over the floor against the Sea Lions finishing with 11 points, eight rebounds, six steals, five assists and a block.

They saved their best performances for No. 3 Azusa Pacific in a pivotal PacWest matchup. Figueroa put up career-highs in points (20) and blocks (3) while adding a season-high six rebounds against the Cougars. Cedeno recorded season-highs in points (20) and 3-point field goals made (4) on the offensive end while adding 11 rebounds for her second double-double of the season and four more steals on the week as Dominican recorded its first win over APU in the NCAA Division II era.

The Penguins will look to maintain their late season momentum as they host Hawaii Pacific for a pair of games beginning Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. PST at the Conlan Center.
