Irvine, CALIF. -- Dominican University of California men's soccer senior
Louie Galdamez earned PacWest Defender of the Week for his efforts in helping Dominican earn a 3-game sweep in Hawaii, while the Dominican squad was named conference Team of the Week.
"Expect nothing, prepare for anything," Galdamez said.
Galdamez was part of a back line that allowed just one goal over the 3-game Hawaii trip, permitting just three shots on target on the trip. The San Jose native was on the field for nearly every second on the trip, tallying 268 of a possible 270 minutes.
"The Hawaii trip is always a tricky one," head coach Dave Frank said. "It's always a great road trio to have with the team, but the games are difficult — the teams out there are good, disciplined and always fight hard. Obviously, there are a few distractions that can make it difficult to be at your best while visiting, plus to play three games in six days is never easy. To come away with nine points and to play as well as we did in each game, it's huge for us. The guys believe in what we're doing and this week was a great example of that.
As a team, Dominican earned a 3-0 record while outscoring opponents 5-1. The Penguins out shot their competition 23-3 as goalkeeper
Alejandro Reyes recorded a pair of clean sheets.
