SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – Dominican men's soccer fell 3-1 Saturday afternoon to Menlo at Kennelly Field.
Brandon Selway scored his second goal of the season for the Penguins (4-8-1, 2-4-1 PacWest). Roy Rosenberg led the Oaks (10-3-0, 4-2-0 PacWest) with a goal and an assist.
Dominican had a good look at goal early as a corner kick found Selway who headed it towards the net but it struck a teammate in the back before it crossed the goal line and the game remained scoreless in the fifth minute. The Oaks struck first as Johan Mendoza Aguilar took the ball from a midfielder and sent a left-footed shot curling inside the upper-right 90 to take the 1-0 lead in the 13th minute.
The Penguins applied pressure and earned a corner kick three minutes later with
Ricky Maldonado put it perfectly back post to Selway who headed it in for the 1-1 tie. The seesaw continued in the 24th minute as Roy Rosenberg served a long ball to David Stuber who headed it back to the center of the the box where Isak Haukefaer deflected it off his right foot into the back of the net for the 2-1 Menlo lead.
The Oaks started the second half strong as Tyler Maas crossed a ball perfectly to Rosenberg at the far post and he booted it past the keeper for the 3-1 lead. It was a slog the rest of the way with not much by way of offensive chances as the midfields and defense continually blocked the ball on the way through.
Dominican will conclude its home season Thursday as it takes on HPU at 3:30 p.m. PDT at Kennelly Field.
