Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Penguins fall to second-half Silversword surge

HONOLULU – Dominican women's soccer fell 2-0 Saturday afternoon to Chaminade in its final game of a Hawaiian road trip at Saint Louis Field.

The Silverswords remained unbeaten in conference play as they outshot the Penguins 11-4 with a 6-2 advantage in shots on frame. Angelina Hert made four saves for Dominican but were unable to hold off a relentless attack from Chaminade.

The Silverswords maintained possession in their attacking third to start the game as they compiled three shots and two corner kicks in the first 15 minutes of play. Hert though was up to the task making a pair of saves towards the lower-right part of the net to keep her net clean. Dominican had its first shot of the game as Danielle Gonzalez found some space in the 28th minute but her shot missed to the left. Hert was tested one last time in the half on a shot from Gracie Bowers but she was in the right place once again to make the save and send the game into the half tied 0-0.

The pressure eventually broke through after Chaminade earned back-to-back corners in the 59th minute and eventually Haley Mo'okini came up with a loose ball in a scrum in front of the net and put it past Hert for the 1-0 lead. Ireland O'Donnell was the first Penguin to test Naomi Takata in the 72nd minute, but Takata gathered the ball in to keep her team in the lead. Ayla Harris followed up a with a shot of her own towards the bottom center of the goal two minutes later as Dominican searched for its equalizer, but Takata once again made the save.

The Silverswords hit the woodwork twice in the last 10 minutes but Gracie Bowers sent a shot in from 35-yards out and beat Hert to the upper-left shelf to take the 2-0 lead and seal the game.

Dominican will return home to face Azusa Pacific Thursday at noon PDT at Kennelly Field.
