Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Penguins earn draw with Jacks

ARCATA, Calif. – Dominican women's soccer earned a season opening draw 0-0 against Humboldt State at College Creek Field.

After a slow start to the game, the Penguins finished with 12 shots and nine on frame while holding the Jacks to nine shots and three on goal. Seniors Claire Brown and Kamryn Sorrick each had two shots with one on goal to lead the Penguins, while senior goalkeeper Jaqueline Catano made two saves in the net.

Dominican came out strong in the second half as Danielle Gonzalez and Brown put a pair of shots on frame within a minute of each other in the 61st minute, but Alexis Aguilar made the saves to keep the scoreboard blank. Sorrick had the last good scoring chance for the Penguins in the 83rd minute as she attempted to put a ball over the head of Aguilar, but once again she made the save to send the game into overtime.

Neither team got off a shot in the first overtime, but Jackie Lancaster and Sofia Odron had back-to-back shots on goal in the 101st minute trying to beat Aguilar to the right side, but neither found the back netting as the game ended in a tie.

Dominican will return to the pitch Sunday as it faces Sonoma State at 1 p.m. PDT at Seawolf Soccer Field.
