Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Penguins fall to Seawolves

ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – Dominican women's soccer fell 4-0 Sunday afternoon to reigning CCAA champion Sonoma State at Seawolf Soccer Field.

The Seawolves (2-0-0) controlled the pace of play finishing with 24 shots with nine on goal, while limiting the Penguins (0-1-1) to one shot on goal.

Dominican was able to hold SSU off the board for several minutes, but Lexi Zandonella-Arasa found Renee Ketner in the box for the opening goal of the game in the 25th minute. The Penguin defense continued to hold their own limiting the Seawolves to just one more scoring opportunity in the first half over the final 20 minutes of the half with senior goalkeeper Jaqueline Catano making the save in the 43rd minute.

Catano came up with two big saves in the 55th minute knocking aside a shot from Zandonella-Arasa and then pushing the rebound opportunity by Andrea Lozano over the bar to keep the game close. Sonoma State opened up the floodgates in the 63rd minute when Lozano found Molly Murphy for a goal and then followed up with a goal of her own two minutes later to take a 3-0 lead.

Freshman midfielder Aquene Tollefson had the lone scoring opportunity for the Penguins in the 76th minute, but Phoebe Barnes made the save for the Seawolves to secure the shutout.

Dominican will return to the pitch Thursday to take on Cal State East Bay at 7 p.m. PDT at Pioneer Stadium.
