SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – Dominican women's tennis fell 7-0 Friday afternoon to Nevada, its third NCAA Division I opponent of the 2021 season, at Castellucci Family Tennis Center.
The Wolfpack (4-1) were dominant in doubles play with Anastasia Luneva and Carla Del Barrio opening with a 6-0 victory on the first court with Selina Turulja and Mathilde Sarcelet capturing court three 6-1. Cristina Moll Alles and Milka Genkova capped off the doubles sweep with a 6-2 win and UNR headed to singles with the 1-0 lead.
Sarcelet and Turulja pushed the lead to 3-0 with 6-0, 6-0 victories in singles to get a point within the clinch. Del Barrio took the first set of No. 5 singles 6-1, but sophomore
Antoinette Schreiber pushed her in the second set keeping it tied 3-3 at the midway point. Del Barrio rebounded to win the last three games for the 6-3 victory to give the Wolfpack the team victory. Senior
Kaitlyn Nguyen also gave her UNR opponent everything she could handle in No. 1 singles as they traded games early in the both sets, but Luneva kept just enough distance to edge her out 6-4, 6-3.
The Penguins will have two weeks to prepare for its rematch with Fresno Pacific on April 3 at 2 p.m. PDT at Haak Tennis Complex.
