Box Score Dominican flew to a 2-2 draw against the PacWest North Pod leading Fresno Pacific Sunbirds on Thursday at Kennelly Field.

Dominican's men's soccer honored its two seniors,
Ivan Galvan and
Logan Siemers, before the game on Thursday as they embarked on their final matches on their home field as Dominican men's soccer players. Both players have made a significant impact on the Penguin program, with coach Dave Frank saying that Galvan's generosity and caring demeanor are just two of the reasons why he'll be sorely missed, while Seimers' leadership as a captain is something that will be hard for upcoming captains to match.

"Before the game there was a different mindset," Siemers said. "It was a little bit of 'this is what I do every day, I come into the office,' but then it turned to 'wow, this is the last time I'm going to do this."

Dominican came flying out of the gate as freshman
Jacob Sieber tallied a shot on target just 5:40 into the game.
Eddie Silverbush opened the scoring just 24 seconds later when he received a perfect pass onto his right foot from
Maxwell Ward who had separated himself from a defender on the left wing before sending the ball into the box. The finishing touch by Silverbush gave Dominican a quick advantage and the early lead.

Sophomore
Alejandro Reyes made perhaps his biggest play of the shortened season in the 17
th minute when Dominican was given a penalty inside the box. Conference superstar Fellipe Souza stepped into the box to take the penalty kick for the Sunbirds, but his kick was met by the stonewall in goal for the Penguins as Reyes got his outstretched hands on the kick in front of the lower left-90 to keep the ball out and sustain Dominican's one-goal lead.

The two teams traded shots over the ensuing minutes, but it was Souza who this time won the battle against Reyes after an errant Penguin pass landed on the foot of Souza who wasted no time putting the ball in the back of the net, drawing the game even at one in the 32
nd minute.

Sophomore Chris Barrios took command of the midfield at this point in the game and throughout the rest of the game, often drawing 3-4 defenders to him before sending the ball to an open teammate. The open field created by Barrios led to a handful of Dominican opportunities, but the game stayed knotted at one until halftime.

"I'm confident in my abilities," Barrios said. "I play a lot of street soccer, so I like it when there are three or four guys covering me. I realized with my first touches that I was drawing defenders right off the bat, so from there I had to make a decision on if I thought the other two defenders would come and support, which led me to be able to send the ball into open space."

Dominican regained the lead in the 52
nd minute when Galvan left his mark on his senior day by sending a trickler past an outstretched Patrick Timmer, giving Dominican a 2-1 lead. This lead would be erased just nine minutes later when the Sunbirds' Gabriel Monteiro received a pass inside the box and sent the ball past Reyes to draw the game back even in the 61
st.

"When I got the ball, I noticed that the FPU defenders backed off a little bit, so when I received the ball I checked my shoulder and saw that I had a couple open yards, so I turned and slotted it," Galvan said."

By the end of regulation, the two teams had racked up 25 total shots, 14 corner kicks, 25 fouls and seven yellow cards. Overtime ensued but solved nothing as the two teams walked off the Kennelly pitch deadlocked at 2-2.

Galvan finished the afternoon leading all Dominican shooters with three total shots, while the team concluded the game with seven shots on target and eight corner kicks.
The Penguins now look ahead to March 4 when they conclude their regular season against Holy Names University.
