Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Penguins march to victory behind Jordan Williams' 24-point night

Dominican University downed the Academy of Art University 84-79 behind Jordan Williams season high 24 points on Saturday night.

The Academy of Art celebrated a Jalen Lovett 3-pointer 2:37 seconds into the game, but the celebrations would be few and far between as the Urban Knights failed to see another lead for the rest of the evening.  Jaelen Ragsdale tied the game just 19 seconds later with a deep ball, followed by four consecutive successful free throws courtesy of Christian Futch and Jordan Williams

Despite leading for the entire game and taking a 12-point lead into halftime, Dominican would never have a run of more than six points in the first half, instead following a pattern of scoring 2-3 baskets each time the Urban Knights earned a bucket. The Penguins would see a lead as large as 13 in the first frame when Jordan Williams buried a bucket from behind the arc, adding to his first half total of 15 tallies. At the half, the Penguins enjoyed a 47-35 advantage.

Jordan Williams and Ragsdale led all scorers with 15 points ticked under their names at the break, while birthday boy Romeo Mays was well on his way to a second consecutive double-double with nine points and eight rebounds.

It took just 94 seconds for the Urban Knights to slice Dominican's lead in half after the teams retook the court, enjoying a quick six point run to start the stanza. Christopher Williams put the Academy of Art comeback bid on hold with a jumper in the paint to stop the run, and Mays followed this up with a 3-pointer to give Dominican another double-digit lead.

The Penguins would go on a run of their own after the two combatants traded baskets over the following minutes, seeing eight consecutive points added under their logo on the scoreboard to give them a 64-48, 16-point lead. The game would then be brought closer by the Urban Knights as Stefan Milivojevic started finding the score sheet before Jacob Smith and Lovett also found their scoring touches, bringing the game to 66-60.

Despite allowing four Urban Knights reach double-digits, the Penguins closed out the game and walked out of their temporary hosts', Holy Names University, gym with an 84-79 victory. This marked the Penguins second win of the season, bring their overall record back to .500 at 2-2.

Jordan Williams led all scorers with 24 points on the night, including six rebounds and a pair of helpers. Ragsdale, Chris Williams and Mays all reached double digits, with 19. 15 and 15 points, respectively, while Mays added 11 rebounds to give him his second double-double in as many games.

The Penguins now look ahead to Feb. 26 when they take on Fresno Pacific University in Fresno.
