TURLOCK, Calif. – Dominican women's tennis started strong, but fell 5-2 as it was unable to hold off Stanislaus State in singles Saturday afternoon at the Stan State Tennis Courts.

Alex Wartenberg continued to prove an effective doubles pairing for the Penguins (3-6) as they grabbed a 6-2 victory to move their win streak to three. Amila Gogalija and Taylor Galya evened doubles for the Warriors (3-5) at a match a piece with a 6-3 win on the third court. Dominican's

Ofelia Lopez Camarena knocked off Cassidy Ferrell and Kayla Nguyen of Stanislaus State 6-3 to give the Penguins the first team point of the match.
The Warriors responded in singles as No. 49 Ferrell claimed a 6-1, 6-0 victory on the top court and Galya added a 6-0, 6-1 victory in No. 6 singles to take a 2-1 lead. Wartenberg answered with a 6-1, 6-1 victory for Dominican to even the match 2-2, but it was all Stanislaus State from there. Maria Ochoa put the Warriors a singles match from clinching the victory with a 6-2, 6-0 win in No. 3 singles. Gagolija then fended off Lim 7-6 (2) in the first set of No. 2 singles and rode the momentum to a 6-0 victory in the second set to secure the victory.
Dominican will return home Thursday for its first home match in a month as it squares off against the University of Hawai'i at Hilo at noon PDT at the Castellucci Family Tennis Center.
