SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – On the eve of the first postseason appearance for Dominican women's basketball, senior forward
Natalie Diaz was named to the 2019 Division II Conference Commissioner's Association (D2CCA) All-West Region First Team after a vote by the region's sports information directors.
Diaz was named PacWest Player of the Year for the second time and was also named 2018-19 Google Cloud Third Team Academic All-America® over the past few weeks. She currently leads NCAA Division II in scoring at 26.4 points per game, on pace to break the Pacific West Conference's all-time mark set by Latoya Wily of BYU-Hawaii of 25.6 points per game. Diaz finished the season with 10 30-point games and one 40-point game this season.
Diaz ranks in the top-100 nationally in four other major categories: blocked shots per game (75th, 1.48), double-doubles (35th, 12), field-goal percentage (91st, 48.5 percent) and rebounds per game (69th, 8.9). After being selected to the first team, Diaz is now eligible to be named a D2CCA All-American. She was selected as to the D2CCA Second Team All-America a season ago.
Diaz narrowly lost out on the West Region Player of the Year to Mikayla Williams of UC San Diego, who she will matchup against Friday at 5 p.m. PDT. Live stats and video will be available online.
