Eagles fly past Penguins

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – Dominican women's basketball could not slow down a hot shooting Biola in a 84-53 loss Saturday evening at the Conlan Center.

Junior guard Julia Razo led the Penguins (3-5, 0-2 PacWest) with 12 points, while junior guard Sydney Larocca added seven points, three rebounds and four assists. Dominican could not find the bottom of the hoop as they shot 30.9% from the field and 10.5% from behind the arc.

Stephani Lee led the Eagles (6-2, 2-0 PacWest) with 21 points including a perfect 6-for-6 from 3-point range. Biola finished shooting 44.8% from the field and an eye-popping 54.8% from behind the arc.

Biola was on fire from behind the arc in the first half as Jazz Benn and Aysia Johnson hit back-to-back 3-pointers to make it 16-8 with 5:44 left in the first quarter. Benn connected on another long distance before Jelissa Puckett capped the 11-2 run with a driving layup to push the lead to 11.

Tatum Brimley scored four quick points including one on a fastbreak to power an 8-0 run to open the second as the Eagles led 29-12 with seven minutes left in the half. The teams remained relatively even for most of the period but a layup by Kayla Macedo and a corner 3-pointer from Lee pushed the lead to 20 at the break.

Biola continued its torrid pace as it hit four 3-pointers to open the third period and was fouled on a fifth making all three free throws to push the lead to 66-27. The lead grew to as many as 40 and the Eagles never slowed down until the fourth.

Dominican will have a week off for final exams before taking on Hawai'i Pacific Monday, Dec. 16, at 5:30 p.m. PST at the Conlan Center. Live stats and video will be available online.
