Dominican created the pace of play right out of the gate, and in the eighth minute a long throw into the box setup Garcia with a shot on goal. Mendoza rejected the attempt, and Garcia recovered the deflection to send it to the back of the net, giving Dominican the 1-0 lead.
The Penguins created another attempt for Garcia in the box on their next attacking possession, but Garcia's shot missed inches high of the crossbar.
Later in the 36
th minute, the penguins attacked the box again as
Eddie Silverbush and Raley played a give-and-go upfield and crossed it to
Khalil Means on the far end of the box, but Mendoza rushed Means to make the sliding block. Garcia recovered the deflection and sent a shot at goal, but missed high once more.
In the 42
nd minute of play, freshman defender
Louie Galdamez beat his defender to the box on a break-away and shot across his body, but the attempt landed wide of the left post to take the game into the half with the Penguins leading, 1-0.
The Penguins looked to redeem themselves in the second half as Garcia sent a cross to Raley in open field. Raley sent a shot across his body into the top right corner of the box to extend Dominican's lead to 2-0 in the 49
th minute.
In the 54
th minute, Garcia and Raley connected on an identical attempt to lead Raley into the box, creating a 1 v. 1 with the keeper. Raley beat Mendoza to send a shot at goal, but hit the side post.
Dominican continued to apply offensive pressure on the Argos, and in the 60
th minute,
Arturo Carrillo Contreras muscled around his defender to create an advantage in the box. Carrillo Contreras sent a shot at goal that slipped under Mendoza in a diving save attempt, and Raley bolted in from the left side to tap in the slow roller before Mendoza could recover for Raley's second goal of the game to make it 3-0.
The Argos were finally able to break Dominican's backline in the 69
th minute as Ventura slipped behind his defender to create a 1 v. 1 with Raygoza. Ventura chipped a shot over Raygoza, but senior defender
Matt Albert slid in to make a crucial save behind Raygoza that would allow the Penguins to record their first shutout of the season.
