FRESNO, Calif. – Dominican Women's Soccer continued its win streak as
Lily Dubuc scored a late goal to lift them to a 3-2 victory over Fresno Pacific University at Ramirez Field.
Junior
Alyssa Ramos was everywhere for the Penguins (4-4-1, 1-1-0 PacWest) making 10 saves to earn the victory.
Keira Dagy scored her first career goal and added an assist for Dominican as it recorded its first victory at Ramirez Field.
After the Sunbirds (1-7-1, 1-2-0 PacWest) overcame a 2-0 deficit, the Penguins went back on the attack for the final eight minutes of the match. Dubuc subbed back into the match in the 84th minute, and quickly made her presence known as she put a shot on frame in the 85th minute and Alex Benevidez made the initial save for FPU, but the rebound fell back to Dubuc who sent the ball into the lower left corner of the net to secure the win for the Penguins, 3-2.
After an uneventful first half, Dagy broke the silence as she dribbled down the right flank, cut into the box and scored over the goalkeeper to give Dominican the 1-0 lead in the 51st minute. Dagy continued to press for the Penguins as she took a strong shot in the 72nd minute that deflected back to
Amanda Harris off the save, and Harris fired a header into the lower left corner for her first goal of the season to make it 2-0.
The Sunbirds (1-7-1, 1-2-0 PacWest) answered quickly, as Anissia Gonzalez's attempt ricocheted off the post to the feet of Mackenzie Reynolds for the put back to cut the lead to one. Much like Dagy, Gonzalez proved to be the playmaker for FPU as she leveled the match in the 82nd minute with her first goal of the season.
Dominican will look to keep its win streak alive on Friday as they return home to Kennelly Field to face Chaminade at 2:30 p.m. PDT. The Penguins will be celebrating Faculty Appreciation Day at the turf, and encourage all faculty to join in attendance, as they acknowledge those who have impacted their academic and athletic careers at Dominican. Live video and stats will be available online.
