Penguins shoot past Hawks

HAYWARD, Calif. – Dominican Women's Soccer Team shined under the lights with a big 5-0 victory over Holy Names at Pioneer Stadium Thursday night.

The Penguins (3-4-1, 1-1-0 PacWest) combined to outshoot the Hawks (1-5-0, 0-1-0 PacWest) 24-8, pressuring HNU's backline for the majority of the 90 minutes. Lily Dubuc and Bailey Kiser led Dominican a goal and an assist apiece. Kiser, Yasmine Angel, Ayla Harris and Cassidy Marquez each celebrated their first goals of the season, while Tianna Brown picked up two assists. Goalkeeper Alyssa Ramos was lights out between the posts making five saves to shutout HNU.

The Hawks struggled to find a rhythm offensively. HNU's Meghan Willmes and Kirsten Phillips each tested Ramos with two shots, but were unsuccessful. Alyssa Lopez finished the match with four total saves for the Hawks.

The Penguins started the match off strong with attempts as Kiser sent a cross into the box to the foot of Dubuc in the box and Dubuc put the ball into the net for the 1-0 lead in the 14th minute.

Dominican continued to pressure, and Keira Dagy found a crease in the defense to loose a shot, but was rejected by the crossbar in the 33rd minute to narrowly miss her first goal of the season. Kiser added to the lead as she found the back netting on an assist from Brown in the 34th minute. The Penguins finished the first half with 13 shots, while holding the Hawks to three.

Li sought to net a quick goal in the first minute of the second half, but Lopez was there to make the save. Dominican's Yasmine Angel took a shot from deep outside the box in the 62nd minute to stun the keeper and increase the Penguins lead to 3-0 for the first goal of her career. Two minutes later, Dubuc found Ayla Harris for her first goal of the season.

After the crossbar denied Brown a goal in the 72nd minute, Brown came back and found Cassidy Marquez in the box for the final goal of the game in the 78th minute. HNU couldn't find a way to counter the Penguin's offensive aggression, and Dominican came away with a blowout win.

The Penguins will look to continue their offensive momentum as they face Fresno Pacific on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. PDT on Ramirez Field. Live video and stats will be available online.
