SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – Dominican women's soccer used consistent pressure to defeat Holy Names 3-0 Tuesday afternoon at Kennelly Field in its final nonconference match.
Junior
Alyssa Ramos earned her second consecutive shutout with three saves for the Penguins (2-3-1). Senior
Michelle Li led Dominican with six shots and one goal and the Penguins finished with a 20-5 advantages in shots. Alexandra Diaz led the Hawks (1-3-0) with two shots and one on goal, while Nyah Summers had three saves on the day.
Dominican wasted no time in pressuring Summers as she found space near the top of the box 47 seconds into the game and sent a curling shot toward the goal, but the ball hit the top-left corner of the goal. The Hawks best chance came minutes later as Diaz was able to speed past defenders but
Alyssa Ramos closed the angles and made the save to keep the Hawks off the board.
In the 26th minute, freshman
Claire Brown took the ball down the right side of the field and sent a cross past the outstretched fingertips of Summers to freshman
Alexis Luna who knocked the ball into the empty net for her first goal as a Penguin.
Li moved quickly on a counter attack in the second half as she took a ball up the middle of the field and split two defenders putting one on her back hip as she loosed a shot to the far post for her third goal of the season in the 48th minute. Senior
Lily Dubuc looked to add to the lead three minutes later, but this time Summers was able to make the save to keep the Hawks in the game.
After narrowly missing on a free kick in the 65th minute, senior
Alyssa Campbell had a second chance in the 70th minute from just outside the box. Campbell made the most of her opportunity send a ball over the wall and curled it just under the crossbar to make it 3-0 for her first of the season.
