LOS ANGELES – Dominican women's tennis dropped the final match of its road trip 6-3 Wednesday to Cal State LA at the CSULA Tennis Complex.
Isabella Lopez and Luciana Di Laura opened the match with an 8-2 win in doubles for the Golden Eagles (3-6), but
Skyler Schaar and
Rickimae Torres answered with an 8-4 victory in No. 1 doubles to even the match for the Penguins (5-5).
Kaitlyn Nguyen and
Alex Wartenberg gave Dominican the lead after taking the final doubles match 8-5 over Chelsey Ruiz and Mariko Sagara of CSULA.
The Golden Eagles were able to even the match again in singles after Di Laura grabbed a 6-2, 6-2 victory in No. 3 singles and Chelsey Ruiz game them the 3-2 lead with a 6-1, 6-3 win on court six.
Rickimae Torres answered with a 6-3, 6-3 victory on court two to even the match, but Lopez was able to hold off Wartenberg 7-5, 6-2 in No. 4 singles to put CSULA within a singles match of the victory.
Elizaveta Sokolova secured the Golden Eagle victory in No. 1 singles, defeating Schaar 6-3, 6-3. Sagara and Nguyen went back-and-forth on court five, but Sagara grabbed the narrow 7-5, 4-6, 10-7 victory for CSULA.
Dominican will return to the court Friday, March 16, when it hosts PacWest Conference foe Hawaii Hilo at noon PST at the Castellucci Family Tennis Center.
