SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – Dominican women's tennis fell 8-1 to the University of Hawai'i at Hilo on a cold and windy Friday at Castellucci Family Tennis Center.
The Vulcans (4-5) took an early lead with Sara Marin and Irena Le earning an 8-1 victory in No. 3 doubles and Marina Colvee Debrot partnered with Carmelle Joyner for another 8-1 win for the 2-0 Hilo lead. The battle on the top doubles court remained tight throughout.

Rickimae Torres broke service to get within a game of the victory and Torres served out the match to help the Penguins (5-6) close the gap to 2-1 with an 8-6 doubles victory.
Joyner helped the Vulcans rebound quickly with a 6-1, 6-1 victory on court six, while Marin put Hilo within a match of the victory with a 6-3, 6-2 win. The final four singles matches were all close through the first set. Daniela Sanz narrowly held off Torres 7-5 in the first set and rode the momentum to clinch the victory for the Vulcans with a 6-1 victory in the second set.
Hilo claimed the final three courts as well, starting with Devanshi Bhimjiyani's victory in No. 1 singles 6-4, 6-2. Debrot added a 2-6, 6-1, 6-4 victory on court four and Irena Le took the final court 5-7, 6-4, 11-9.
Dominican will travel to face cross-bay rival Holy Names Sunday at 2 p.m. at Meyer Tennis Courts in Oakland, California.
