SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – Dominican women's tennis moved its winning streak to three with a 6-3 victory over UC Santa Cruz on Saturday afternoon at Castellucci Family Tennis Center.
Skyler Schaar and
Rickimae Torres started the Penguins off on a high note claiming the first victory of the match 8-2 over Ashley Isaac and Savana McDowell.
Alex Wartenberg and
Kaitlyn Nguyen made it 2-0 in Dominican's favor after they held of the Banana Slugs' Kayla Manz and Therese Recidoro 8-5 in No. 2 doubles. Claire Stoner and Zoë Brook trimmed the lead to one after they claimed No. 3 doubles 8-3 for UCSC.
Torres reclaimed the momentum for the Penguins with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Recidoro, while Wartenberg put them within a match of the team victory after a 6-2, 6-1 win on court five over Isabelle Brown.
The Banana Slugs did not go down without a fight as Manz claimed victory in No. 3 singles 6-2, 6-2 over Nguyen. However,
Taylor Lim secured the victory for the Penguins with a 6-1, 6-3 on court six over McDowell. Gray added a 6-2, 6-4 victory on court four, while Isaac edged Schaar 6-4, 4-6, 11-9 for UCSC.
Dominican will hit the road in Southern California next week beginning with Concordia University Irvine Saturday at 10 a.m. PST.
