LA JOLLA, Calif. – Dominican women's tennis fell 8-1 to No. 14 UC San Diego in its first match in Southern California at Northview Tennis Courts on Sunday afternoon.

Madison Hale and Alexandra Weil gave the Tritons (7-4) the first doubles match victory, defeating Savannah Gray and Taylor Lim 8-1 on court two. Ashley Chao and Becky Chou edged the Penguins' Skyler Schaar and Rickimae Torres 8-4 on court one to follow. Kaitlyn Nguyen and Alex Wartenberg cut the deficit to 2-1 with a victory in No. 3 doubles for Dominican, topping Nousha Nowamooz and Chloe Wight 8-6.

Weil added a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Gray in No. 3 singles and Chao topped Torres 6-1, 6-3 to put UCSD within a point of the team victory. Chou sealed the win for the Tritons on court two with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Schaar.

After victories by Valeria Corral and Jessica Cramer, Nguyen played a very tight match with Hale in No. 5 singles. The two traded games in the first set to a 6-6 tie and the back-and-forth battle continued into the tiebreaker, but Hale was able to claim a narrow 7-5 decision to take the first set. Hale maintained the momentum in the second set to hold off Nguyen 6-3 for the victory.
