OAKLAND, Calif. – Dominican women's tennis were nearly perfect, dropping three games in a dominating 8-1 victory over Mills College Friday.
The Penguins swept doubles while taking all but one match in singles against Mills College.
Taylor Lim and
Kaitlyn Nguyen set the tone for the doubles matches Friday against the Cyclones with the first match victory of 8-0 over Grace Deaton and Dana Culpepper of Mills.
Skyler Schaar and
Rickimae Torres continued the roll with an 8-0 win on court one over Grace Deaton and Dana Culpepper. Dominican's
Nicole Bermudez and
Savannah Gray finished closely behind with another 8-0 victory Maya Ibrahim-Bartley and Sara Garcia.
The Cyclones lone victory came in singles play when the shorthanded Penguins were forced to forfeit the No. 6 singles match after Nguyen was scratched. However, that wouldn't slow down Dominican for long. Lim, Torres and Bermudez each defeated their Mills' opponents 6-0, 6-0 in singles. Lim out dueled Roxana Farmer 6-2, 6-0 on court three and Schaar claimed a 6-0, 6-1 victory in No. 1 singles over Deaton.
The Penguins will bring it back home Saturday against UC Santa Cruz at noon PST.
