SAN FRANCISCO - Dominican women's tennis lost 8-1 Friday against Academy of Art University at the San Francisco Tennis Club.
 
The Penguins played two tight doubles matches with the Urban Knights, but Academy of Art was able to come out on top of all three matches. Skyler Schaar and Rickimae Torres played a near even match with the No. 6 doubles team nationally of Alma Thell-Lenntorp and Klara Thell-Lenntorp of Academy of Art but fell 8-5.
 
Alex Wartenberg and Kaitlyn Nguyen also kept things close falling 8-4 to Maria Andrisani and Taisiia Andrieieva. Paula Alcantara and Monika Stanikova finished the doubles sweep with an 8-0 victory for the Urban Knights.
 
Wartenberg took a hit to her head and was forced to retire early from her singles match, while Schaar also had to retire early due to injury, giving Academy of Art the team victory.
 
Senior Rickimae Torres battled hard to secure the Penguins sole victory against the Urban Knights, defeating Andrisani in straight sets 6-2, 6-1.
 
The Penguins play again Saturday at home against American River at noon PST.
