Penguins unable to slow down PLNU

SAN DIEGO, Calf. – Dominican men's soccer team was unable to slow down Point Loma Nazarene University in a 4-1 loss Saturday afternoon. 

Colin Gunby led the Penguins (5-6-2, 2-3-1 PacWest) with his first goal of the season and Luke Raley added an assist. Goalkeeper William Finnie (3-4-2) finished the match with two saves.

The Sea Lions (8-5-0, 4-2-0 PacWest) was led by Tim Siegfried's hat trick in the victory, giving him 13 goals on the season. Parker Scalzo added his third goal of the season. Goalkeeper Wiktor Lasota (8-4-0) tallied two saves, while the Sea Lions held the Penguins to only three shots on goal. 

Dominican jumped ahead early when Gunby headed home Raley's cross in the 13th minute of the match. In the 24th minute, William Finnie drew a yellow card in the box to provide PLNU the penalty opportunity and Siegfried put home the kick to even the score. The Sea Lions quickly added to their lead as Lucas Purgato found Siegfried on a breakaway for his second goal of the match to give the Sea Lions a 2-1 lead.

The Sea Lions continued to attack Dominican's third, as Scalzo made his mark on the match with a goal in the 39th minute to increase the Sea Lions' lead to 3-1. The Penguins and Sea Lions each had three shots on frame heading into the half.

Siegfried continued his first half dominance well into the second, finding the back of the net in the 54th minute to complete a hat trick, lifting the Sea Lions over the Penguins, 4-1. Aiming to cut Dominican's deficit, Eddie Silverbush attacked in the box in the 86th minute, but the ball hit the right goal post. 

The Penguins will look to bounce back as they face Notre Dame de Namur at noon PDT Sunday, Oct. 21 at Kennelly Field. Live video and stats will be available online.
