Box Score SAN FRANCISCO – Dominican men's soccer fell 2-0 Tuesday afternoon to San Francisco State at Cox Stadium.
The Penguins (1-1) had 12 shots to the Gators' (3-0) 10, but were unable to find the back netting on any of their six shots on frame.
Sophomore
Luke Raley led Dominican with three shots and two on goal. Richard Leon and Sam Gebremiche scored the goals for San Francisco State.
The Penguins were the aggressor to begin the game with a corner and two shots in the first 15 minutes, but junior
Tanner Herrero's shot was corralled by Kyle Harmina to keep them off the board.
The Gators received a penalty kick in the 18th minute and Leon put it in the back netting to give them the 1-0 lead. Nigus Solomon then found Gebremiche behind the defense in the 45th minute and he beat the keeper to double the lead at the half.
Senior
Zach Bush tried to cut the lead in half in the 54th minute, but Harmina made the save. Junior
Christian Lathrop was then sent off the field in the 56th minute on a late challenge and Dominican played a man down for the remainder of the game.
The Penguins kept the offensive pressure on with senior
Austen McGregor getting a head on a ball in the 63rd minute followed by a shot in the 64th, but was unable to find the netting on either opportunity.
Raley's first shot on goal was punched away by the keeper in the 76th minute and junior
Matt Case had an opportunity on the rebound, but Harmina again made the save to preserve the shutout.
Dominican will head to Rocklin, California, Saturday to take on William Jessup at 1 p.m. PST. Live stats and video will be available online.
