Penguins fall at Hawai'i Pacific

WAIPAHU, Hawai'i – Hawai'i Pacific scored three times in each half and handed Dominican men's soccer a 6-1 PacWest loss Friday night at Waipi'o Peninsula Soccer Stadium.

Dominican moved to 5-5-4 overall and 4-2-1 in conference play, while Hawai'i Pacific improved to 6-5-3 and 5-2-1 in the PacWest. The Sharks finished with a 20-7 advantage in shots and placed 10 attempts on goal compared with three for the Penguins. Colin Nestor made four saves for Dominican.

Hawai'i Pacific struck almost immediately. Kelly Takara set up Paul Norberg just 31 seconds into the match, and Norberg converted his third goal of the season to give the Sharks a 1-0 advantage. Dominican settled in after the early goal and generated a pair of first-half looks. Lucas Flores sent an attempt high in the seventh minute before Adrian Garcia had another chance in the 21st. Nestor kept the deficit at one with a save on Pedro Ashley in the 30th minute.

The Sharks created separation late in the half. Ryder Breeden scored at 40:27 before Samuel Sykes added another goal just 96 seconds later off an assist from Elvis Villalva, sending Hawai'i Pacific into halftime with a 3-0 lead.

Dominican produced one of its better opportunities shortly after the break when Jake Kazlauskas put an attempt toward the lower-left corner in the 54th minute, forcing Eduardo Marin into a save. Hawai'i Pacific answered with another surge. Felix Leins scored at 59:32, and Kelly Takara followed in the 68th minute off a Jackson Palladino assist to stretch the margin to 5-0. Nestor made three saves during that stretch, turning away Takara, Noah Clarkson and Olle Ridelius.

Dominican broke through in the 76th minute when Andrew Cudden scored his first goal of the season at 75:06. The junior defender, who entered the match with one career assist but no goals in 2026, converted Dominican's lone goal of the evening.

Dominican closes its Hawai'i road trip Monday at Hawai'i Hilo with kickoff scheduled for 3 p.m. HST.
