Penguins and Silverswords duel to a draw

Box Score HONOLULU -- Dominican men's soccer and Chaminade played in a heavy rain and the game ended in a 1-1 draw after going 110 minutes Monday at Saint Louis Field in the first game of the Penguins' Hawaii trip.

The game was a close competition for both the Penguins (4-8-1, 1-7-1 PacWest) and the Silverswords (3-7-2, 2-6-2 PacWest). Dominican outshot Chaminade 21-14, although Chaminade had more shots on goal 6-3. Junior goalie Christian Lathrop had five saves in the match. Junior Matt Case led the Penguins with five shots, with two shots on goal.

Both goals in the game came in the second half as the rain continued to pick up. Dominican struck first as Briggs headed home a deflection from Colin Gunby to open the scoring in the 61st minute. In the 75th minute, Chaminade responded with a goal by Makoto Shoji, who scored from 15 yards out from the left on an assist by Micah Mokulehua.

The Silverswords' Tyler Ebisuya drew a red card at the conclusion of the first overtime period and was sent off, giving the Penguins a man advantage heading into the final 10 minutes. Case was the only Dominican player to find room for a shot in the second overtime, but it went high and the Penguins were unable to find the golden goal.

The Penguins will continue their road trip Wednesday against Hawaii Pacific at 3 p.m. HST. Live stats and video will be available online.
