SAN FRANCISCO — The Dominican University of California women's soccer team overcame a 2-0 deficit with a pair of second half goals to come away with a 2-2 tie at San Francisco State on Sunday.
Sierra Sagasta's header in the 42nd minute gave the Gators (0-1-1) the lead late in the first half. Sagasta added another goal in the 52nd minute made it a 2-0 lead.
The Penguins (0-0-2) scored their first goal of the season in the 76th minute when
Mariah Meza's cross connected with
Bailey Kiser into the far left of the box.
Lily Dubuc's came up with a rebound in the 81st minute and found Stephaie Pawek, whose goal equalized the match at 2-2.
Meza had a header in overtime that sailed left and Pawek's shot in the final five seconds of double overtime was blocked, forcing the two teams to settle for a tie.
Freshman goalkeeper
Alyssa Ramos made the start of her collegiate career and made seven saves, four of which came in overtime.
SF State edged the Penguins in the shot column 20-13. SF State placed nine on goal while Dominican had six shots on goal.
Dominican will next head to Nampa, Idaho for a pair of contests. The Penguins face Central Washington on Saturday, Sept. 10 at 9 a.m. Pacific and host Northwest Nazarene on Monday, Sept. 12 at 2 p.m. Pacific. PacWest Conference play begins Thursday, Sept. 22 at home vs. Hawai'i Hilo at 3:30 p.m.
