NAMPA, Idaho — The Dominican University of California men's soccer team netted a pair of second-half goals but it wasn't enough to overcome three first-half Northwest Nazarene goals in a 4-2 loss.
Junior
Austen McGregor scored the Penguins' (0-2) first goal of 2016 in the 52nd minute, a rebound from
Bryan Juarez's saved shot. Juarez scored a goal of his own in the 72nd minute, off of a penalty kick. The Penguins outshot NNU (1-0-1) 20-8 but were unable to capitalize on those opportunities. The Crusaders put all but one of those shots on goal while Dominican placed nine of 20 on frame. Dominican also had five corner kicks.
NNU scored in the 14th, 22nd, and 41st minutes to mount a 3-0 lead before the half. The Crusaders added one more goal from 15 yards out in the 66th minute.
The match was chippy with seven yellow cards and two red cards handed out.
Roberto Macias, who had seven shots with two on goal in the contest, picked up one of those red cards in the final minute, meaning that he'll be inactive for the Penguins next game on Saturday, Sept. 10 at Cal Poly Pomona. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. at Kellogg Field.
