Penguins notch first win thanks to big day from Dubuc, Li

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. — The Dominican University of California women's soccer team had the breakout match its been looking for on Saturday with a 3-0 PacWest win over visiting Hawai'i Pacific.

Sophomore Lily Dubuc, a preseason All-PacWest selection who has seen her time limited early this season due to injury early, made an impact during her 20 minutes on the field. The sophomore scored in the 40th minute off of a pass from Angelica Huettl to send the Penguins (1-2-3/1-0-1 PacWest) into halftime with the lead.

Michelle Li, who has been knocking on the door in several matches, notched the first two college goals of her career in the second half. Li scored in the 58th minute on the assist from Rachel Stowell, then nearly scored again in the 67th minute when her header hit the crossbar. Her second goal came on a pass from Alyssa Campbell, then a breakaway down the middle inside the box in the 74th minute with a finish to the lower right corner.

Dominican outshot HPU (1-5-1/1-1-0 PacWest) 14-9 despite allowing 10 corner kicks. Both teams placed eight shots on goal. Dominican's freshman goalkeeper, Alyssa Ramos, posted seven saves in the shutout en route to her first collegiate win.

The Penguins will now head to Southern California to face Azusa Pacific (3-3-1/1-1-0 PacWest) on Thursday, Sept. 29, and Point Loma (3-2-2/1-1-0 PacWest) on Saturday, Oct. 1.
