SAN RAFAEL, Calif. — The Dominican University of California men's soccer team battled for 95 minutes but lost another heartbreaker in the form of a 1-0 PacWest loss to visiting Hawai'i Pacific.
Both teams had eight shots at the end of regulation but HPU's Sven Koenig showed why he's the leading goal scorer in the PacWest. The sophomore forward scored the difference maker with 4:27 to go in overtime. He took a pass from Christian Porras on the left side, then moved to the middle of the field near the top of the box and scored past Dominican keeper
Oscar O'Con on Koenig's four shot of the match.
O'Con made a diving save earlier in the match that kept the contest scoreless. He made three saves on the day. The Penguins (1-6-0/1-1-0 PacWest) had two shots on goal, one from
Mark Caliguire and one from
Chandler Roselli.
The Penguins will now embark on a two-match trip to Southern California. They'll face Azusa Pacific on Thursday, Sept. 29 at 5 p.m. and Point Loma on Saturday, Oct. 1 at 11:30 a.m.
