SAN RAFAEL, Calif. — The Dominican University of California women's volleyball team jumped out to an early lead but fell 3-1 (23-25, 25-21, 25-10, 25-13) to Concordia on Friday night in PacWest play.
It was the first conference loss for the Penguins (7-4/3-1 PacWest), who overcame a 6-2 deficit thanks to a seven-point run. The Eagles (11-1/2-1 PacWest) took set two thanks to a five-point run midway through the set. Concordia began the third and fourth sets with four-point runs and scored the final six points of the match.
Aimee Steinwand's posted 15 kills and 12 digs for the junior's ninth double-double of the season.
Cat Thomason added six kills and
Kate Even and
Susanna Pilkerton each added five apiece. Four Penguins recorded double-digit digs, led by 17 from libero
Amanda Lee. Setter
Hannah Smith dished out 31 assists and had 11 digs.
Madeline Powelson had 10 digs in her return and three kills despite playing mostly back row.
Concordia avoided hitting into the block and the Penguins, who entered the night averaging nearly seven per match, only recorded two. Meanwhile, the Eagles sent back nine Penguins attacks. The Eagles also posted a .315 attack percentage, including .571 in set three. Rachel Flynn led all players with 23 kills and made it a double-double with 16 digs. Ellie Ladensack added 16 kills. Libero Taylor Dennison also recorded 16 digs.
