SAN RAFAEL, Calif. — The Dominican University of California women's volleyball team dropped a 3-1 (25-16, 25-20, 22-25, 25-16) decision to visiting California Baptist on Saturday.
Tied at 15-15 in set one, the Lancers (9-3/4-0 PacWest) used a 10-1 run to pull away and grabbed the momentum. Dominican (7-6/3-2 PacWest) couldn't stop the bleeding and was forced to call timeout when the deficit grew to 10-3 in set two. The Penguins cut the lead to two but were unable to catch up and soon trailed 2-0. Dominican fell behind yet again in set three, 5-1, but used a 10-1 run of its own that forced CBU to cal timeout. Dominican held CBU to a -.023 hitting in the third set and squeezed out the victory. The Lancers turned it on in the fourth set though and followed up the poor third set performance with a .429 hitting percentage that sealed the match.
At 9-5, Dominican was outblocked for the second time in as many matches.
Brittany Latigue led the Penguins with 10 kills and
Cat Thomason added eight.
Aimee Steinwand, who entered play with nine double-doubles, was limited to six kills and eight digs but did have a pair of service aces. Setter
Hannah Smith dished out 29 assists and libero

Lauren Hackett posted a match-high 27 kills for CBU. Libero Tori Ortman recorded 20 digs.
