HAYWARD, Calif. – The Dominican University of California men's soccer team lost a heartbreaker in overtime, 1-0 at Cal State East Bay, on Tuesday night at Pioneer Stadium.

CSUEB (3-2-0) scored in the 98th minute on a through ball from the lower left hand side of the box from midfielder Evan Sanchez to Michael Paiva, who gathered in the middle of the box and scored to the top right post past Dominican (0-4-0) goalkeeper Oscar O'Con.

The Penguins  outshot the Pioneers 11-10 but were unable to convert on several opportunities. Just before the Pioneers' goal, Kyle Hoh's shot in the 93rd minute sailed right. Austen McGregor had a header sail inches over the crossbar in the 89th minute. Arturo Carillo Contreras' header in the 82nd minute also sailed just right as Pioneers goalkeeper Ariel Rosenmann contested his attempt off of the corner kick. Both goalkeepers made saves in the 74th minute and Rosenmann stopped a Carrillo Contreras shot in the 81st minute that preserved the scoreless match up to that point. The Penguins nearly took a lead towards the end of the first half when McGregor's shot on a breakaway sailed wide.

The Penguins host William Jessup on Friday, Sept. 16 at 4 p.m., then open PacWest play on Thursday, Sept. 22 at noon vs. Hawaii Hilo.
