SAN RAFAEL, Calif. — The Dominican University of California men's soccer team fell to William Jessup for the first time since 2007 in a 2-0 loss in the Penguins' home opener.
The two teams played a scoreless first half despite opportunities by both teams. The Penguins (0-5) attacked early but a
Tristan White header in the first minute went wide and an Arturo Carillo-Contreras shot a minute later went high. WJU (3-2) had a shot in the eighth minute bang off the crossbar and two minutes later
Austen McGregor's header was saved. The Penguins' best chance in the first half came in the 39th minute. Defender
Connor Murphy anticipated and intercepted a pass and connected with
Luke Raley but WJU goalkeeper Schnable made a diving save.
After a
Christian Lathrop save, Dominican had a flurry of attempts but three corner kicks and a pair of shots in a span of six minutes proved fruitless.
