Women's soccer notches win at UC Santa Cruz

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. — The Dominican University of California women's soccer team got back in the win column with a non-conference road victory at UC Santa Cruz on Tuesday.

Bailey Kiser found Michelle Li in the 15th minute to give the Penguins (2-4-3) an early lead. The lead didn't last long though as the Banana Slugs (2-7-1) scored the equalizer in the 19th minute off of a free kick from 30 yards out that bounced over goalkeeper Alyssa Ramos' head. In the 36th minute, Li dished off to Yvonne Martinez, who tapped the ball in at the right post for her first collegiate goal. Less than a minute into the second half, Li netted her team-leading fourth goal of the season off of an assist from Rachel Stowell.

Dominican outshot UC Santa Cruz 20-9 and 11-4 shots on goal. The Penguins also attempted four corner kicks and did not allow any.

The Penguins host Fresno Pacific in PacWest action on Friday, Oct. 7 at 2:30 p.m. The Dominican soccer teams will help show their commitment to the fight against pediatric cancer as they wear gold laces for Lace Up 4 Pediatric Cancer®, an initiative of Go4TheGoal.
