RIVERSIDE, Calif. — The Dominican University of California men's soccer team had one of its best efforts of the season on Saturday but fell 1-0 in double overtime at California Baptist.
It was another tough loss for the Penguins (3-11-1/3-6-1 PacWest), who have now lost seven matches by a single goal. The Penguins had nine shots. Three of the better opportunities came from
Chandler Roselli, whose shot with 30 minutes to go in regulation sailed high, and a pair of back-to-back shots in the final two minutes of regulation from
Luke Raley. Raley attempted a bicycle kick but it hit the side netting.
After a scoreless first overtime, third-place California Baptist (10-4-0/6-3-0 PacWest) broke through with 4:58 remaining in the match. Goalkeeper
Christian Lathrop got a hand on the ball but couldn't shut down the 1v1 by Luca Tschaidse, who took the rebound off of Lathrop on the left side and finished to the opposite corner.
The Penguins will head to St. George, Utah for a match against first-place Dixie State on Saturday, Oct. 29. The Trailblazers (11-3/9-0 PacWest) are coming off at 1-0 victory versus ART U and will be playing their second match since the midseason dismissal of Head Coach Tim Busen. Kickoff is slated for 4:30 p.m. (3:30 p.m. Pacific).
