IRVINE, Calif. — The Dominican University of California women's soccer team handed Concordia its first loss of the season with a
Rachel Stowell goal in double overtime for a 2-1 PacWest victory.
The Penguins (6-4-4/5-2-2PacWest) survived the heat — 91 degrees at kickoff — and handed previously undefeated Concordia (8-1-4/4-1-3 PacWest) its first loss of the season.
Stowell's second game-winner in double overtime came in the 104th minute.
Stephanie Pawek drew a defender at the top of the box and passed to a wide-open Stowell, who finished with her left foot to the back right post past diving goalkeeper Jazmin Alvarez.
Trailing 1-0 in the second half, Dominican's equalizer came in the 64th minute. Sophomore
Lily Dubuc sliced her way through traffic and dished off to
Mariah Meza, who finished to the back left. After a scoreless first half, Concordia scored on a set piece in the 48th minute. Natalie Werner's free kick found Keely Abt, who headed in on the far post.
Freshman goalkeeper
Alyssa Ramos, coming off of her second PacWest Freshman of the Week honor, earned her sixth win with seven saves. She had two punchouts to preserve the score as time expired in regulation and midway through the first overtime.
The Penguins are tied for fourth in points (17) with California Baptist and will put their four-match win streak on the line when the two teams face off on Saturday, Oct. 22 at 1:30 p.m. Live stats will be provided by CBU and will be available at
