SAN RAFAEL, Calif. — The Dominican University of California men's soccer team earned a 1-0 road victory over Academy of Art on Sunday thanks to
Tristan White's first career goal.
White's goal on a pass from
Arturo Carrillo Contreras in the 55th minute was the difference. Carrillo Contreras played ball into the box and the sophomore defender finished to the far corner past goalkeeper Kevin Mendez's reach. Up to that point, the two teams played fairly evenly. Both teams registered three shots on goal in the first half. ART U had shots in the 62nd, 76th, and 80th minutes saved by Dominican goalkeeper
Christian Lathrop. Lathrop finished with six saves for his first shutout of the season.
Austen McGregor led the Penguins with five shots.
Luke Raley added three shots, two of which were saved.
Due to inclement weather in San Francisco the match was played on the Penguins' home field, Kennelly Field at the John F. Allen Athletics Complex, but was still considered a road match for the Penguins (3-9-1/3-4-1 PacWest). The win snapped a three-match losing streak to the Urban Knights (2-9-1/2-5-0 PacWest) dating back to 2013. The win also moves the Penguins into a three-way tie for eighth place with 10 points.
The Penguins will now embark on the second Southern Californian road trip of the season. This time, Dominican will visit Concordia (6-4-2/5-2-0 PacWest) on Thursday, Oct. 20 and California Baptist (8-4-0/4-3-0 PacWest) on Saturday, Oct. 22.
