SAN RAFAEL, Calif. — The Dominican University of California women's soccer team recorded its fifth overtime match on Friday and for the first time this season, left the field victorious in overtime.
Rachel Stowell's game-winner in the 102 minute lifted Dominican to a 1-0 victory over Notre Dame de Namur.
After wrestling possession away from NDNU (4-6-2/2-4-1 PacWest), Dominican (4-4-3/3-2-2 PacWest) went on the attack. Senior
Stephanie Pawek lofted a shot from deep that NDNU goalkeeper Abigail Cebrero got her hand on but Stowell rushed in on the right side and got a shot past Cebrero for the game-winner.
It was a moment of redemption for a Penguins team that ended the first overtime in frustration after missing a shot from point-blank range.
Bailey Kiser's shot in the 93rd minute was saved and Stowell had an empty net but instead tapped her shot off the post.
Dominican had 18 shots in total, 10 on frame. The Argonauts attempted a dozen shots with seven on frame. Pawek attempted five shots and Kiser had three shots, all on goal. Freshman goalkeeper
Alyssa Ramos recorded six saves and earned her third shutout of the season.
The win puts Dominican fifth in the conference in points with 11, tied with California Baptist.
Due to expected inclement weather in San Francisco this weekend, Sunday's match at Kezar Stadium versus Academy of Art has been moved to Kennelly Field. The match is still considered a road game for the Penguins and admission is free. Kickoff is slated for 2:30 p.m. following the men's match at noon.
