Penguins fall to third-place NDNU

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. — The Dominican University of California men's soccer team fell 3-0 to visiting Notre Dame de Namur on Friday in PacWest action.

The Argonauts (7-5/5-2 PacWest) got on the scoreboard first after a costly miscue by Penguins (2-9-1/2-4-1) goalkeeper Oscar O'Con. O'Con rushed out to the top corner of the box but didn't get to the ball in time and instead made contact with an Argonauts player, which resulted in a foul in the box and a penalty kick. Glenn Gomez conveted the PK and NDNU led 1-0. Gomez scored again in the 65th minute on a pass from Sergio Rico. He used his left foot, took a couple touches in the box, and scored to the lower left corner past a diving O'Con. Esteban Berumen scored his team-leading eighth goal on a breakway in the 71st minute.

The Penguins had 10 shots, four on frame. Roberto Macias, Austen McGregor, and Luke Raley all had two shots apiece. Both of McGregor's attempts were on frame.

Due to expected inclement weather in San Francisco this weekend, Sunday's match at Kezar Stadium versus Academy of Art has been moved to Kennelly Field. The match is still considered a road game for the Penguins and admission is free. Kickoff is slated for noon followed by the women at 2:30 p.m. Live stats will be provided by ART U and will be available at dominicanathletics.com/live. Live updates will also be available on the @dominican_ms Twitter account.
